The old man gets another year older...

My dad's birthday is on Sunday the 16th.  The whole reason we wanted to get together was to celebrate my dad's birthday.  Camie generously used her carryon suitcase to bring dozens of Amato's Italian Sandwich rolls to Utah for all of us who live far away from the source.  Dad really wanted an Italian for his birthday dinner.  So we made our own with ham, cheese, tomatoes, peppers, onions, olives, salt, pepper, and oil.  They were so delicious!  I do miss Italian Sandwiches and whoopie pies, sigh.

Night brought cake, ice cream, and presents time.  We have a lot of people in our family with December birthdays so we tried to cover everyone.  Brothers, uncles, cousins, nephews, and Grandpa Davis all got shout-outs.  Caleb decided to come down for Dad's birthday celebration and ended up missing his son, Sam's, actual birthday.  Sam was a little sad so we facetimed with Sam when it was time to sing happy birthday and sang to him.  Hopefully, he liked it.  Simon also had a December birthday and sweet Catherine remembered to give him a gift.  It was a nice celebration, I think.

My sister, Jennifer, asked us all to tell her what we learned from our Dad.  She and my niece, Cassi, put all the quotes together and had them framed.  Poor Dad couldn't make it through more than a couple of sentences before getting too emotional.  My Dad is an emotional guy.  We all know it.

I gave Dad a framed picture of his father (my Grandfather) pulling in rope on a tug boat.  It is such a cool picture--which is no surprise because my Grandfather was such a cool guy!  Dad told the story of going to work with Grandpa on the tug boat.  They passed under the Million Dollar Bridge in Portland and my Dad pointed up at the cars stuck on the bridge, laughing at how lame they must be, going to work as lawyers and businessmen.  Stuck in offices and in cars while his Dad got to drive a tug boat all around the Portland Harbor.  The picture made my Dad emotional and the story made my Aunt Colleen emotional.  Grandpa Davis really was the coolest.

Chris brought his family's measuring stick down to the Hurricane house.  We all had to take turns being lined up and measured for posterity.

AAAANNNNNDDDD we took pictures for posterity too.  There posterity, I hope you're happy now.

Uncle Richard 100% changed his shirt so they would all match.

This is the picture of my Grandpa I gave my Dad.  See, he is so cool!  If you want me to make copies of this picture and send them to you...so you can pretend you have a Grandpa as cool as mine, I will.  I am generous like that.

Although, my kid's Grandpa is pretty cool too.  This is him and Clara at my Dad's 65th birthday.  He turned 71 this year...cancer sucks.
