I love being a homeowner. So far, we haven't had any major issues to deal with or fix. I love getting to make decisions about paint colors and what I can hammer into the walls. I love dreaming and planning for how I want to change rooms or the yard. I love that it is ours and we can do (when we have the money) whatever we want without getting someone else's permission. It is a wonderful feeling!
One project we've had funds (and materials) for has been the paint the bathrooms. I bought the paint a while ago and even bought a few accessories at IKEA for the bathrooms. It has taken me a while to put my plan together. (Sorry for spending the money early, babe.)
I started in the downstairs half bathroom. I love the fixtures and features in this tiny room. The faucet is fun and the apron sink is cool. My favorite is the black and white tiles on the floor, classic and beautiful! With all of these new and lovely features, you'd think the room was good enough, not for me. I knew it needed COLOR!
So I picked three blues, bought sample cans and painted a swatch of each on the bathroom walls. I took in the opinion of family and friends who used the powder room for the next couple of months. Everyone was in agreement, the light (almost toothpastey) blue was best. I didn't agree and bought a can of the darker slate blue. The one guest who made me doubt my plan showed up after I had paid for the can of slate blue paint. My sister in law, Heather, who I think has great taste and I love talking clothes and decor with her. She is my Project Runway and sewing buddy. She and Alan moved to Idaho last year and I have been mad about it ever since. Anyway, she and Alan came for a visit and she voted for the light blue everyone else liked too. I was worried! I had already bought the dark blue and this trusted advisor was saying no.
The money was spent so I went forward with the darker blue. And am I ever glad I did! It turned out so beautifully! I love the color and it makes the floor tiles pop. Even though the darker color seems like it would shrink the tiny bathroom it really makes it feel bigger and better. I LOVE IT!
Without further ado here are the before and after pictures. (The before picture is from the first time we walked through the house with the kids. When we knew we were buying the house but waiting for our closing process to be done.)
I just need to add a toilet paper holder shelf next to the toilet...that will probably take me a year to do...but for now...the bathroom looks amazing. It is my favorite room in the house.
I loved the color and the way it made the black pop so much I bought a second can so I could paint the kid's bathroom blue too. That bathroom also turned out great. I'll have to get an after picture of that bathroom posted too.
It was one of the only projects I wanted to get done over the holiday break. It took me until the very last weekend of the break to get to it, but I did and got it done! Homeownership for the win!
