Beach day with Will

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love the beach.  I've blogged about Will and my different land formation preferences (he loves the mountains and I love the sea) before too.  So it might not come as a surprise to hear me say Will does not accompany us to the beach very often.  The first reason being, we always go on a week day when he has to work.  The second being, he's not that into it.  However, he has been warming up to the beach over the last 10 years or so.  When I was planning our summer outings earlier this month, Will said he would like to go on our beach day.  I was excited and impressed.

So, we made the rare Saturday trip to the beach.  Saturdays are usually more crowded at the beach and traffic is thicker so we don't go on many Saturdays.  But with Daddy coming along we were all happy to brave more people to have our whole family at the beach.

Our day did not disappoint in any way.  Well...the weather was a little cool for my comfort but the water was warm and the sand was heavenly.

We did all of our favorite beach day activities.

Burring a kid (or three) in the sand.

Boogie boarding.  Actually, this is a fairly new beach day activity for us.  We've gone a few times with friends who bring along their boards.  This spring, Costco had boogie boards on sale so I bought a few.  This beach day was their maiden voyage.  They were really fun.  Lorien and Wyatt are the best boogie boarders.  Clare, Will and I all ate a ton of sand and swallowed a gallon of water in our attempts.  It was not pretty...I lost my favorite pair of sunglasses...I also lost the top of my swim suit...twice.

Clare stayed in the water while we played frisbee.  I think she thought we abandoned her.  I kept checking on her.

Some family Frisbee happened.

Miles of sand was dug through and around.

Extremities were turned blue or purple...with plenty of shivering fun.

And parents kissed and loved each other.

My love

After our beach day we headed over to Pizza of my Heart for dinner.  On the way in we ran into one of the kids Will used to coach in wrestling at Woodside High School.  It was so nice to see this awesome young man all grown up.  He and his brother wrestled and it was great to catch up for a minute and hear how well they both are doing in life.  It was another treat on top of a really sweet day.
