MIT (round one)

The packed Tuesday continues!  Will worked really hard planning our trip and our activities all around town.  At long last it was time to tour his alma mater MIT.  Will planned the whole day and took us to all the high lights and some of the cool secret stuff we wouldn't have seen in a regular tour.

Unfortunately, it started raining cats and dogs right as we parked the van.  Fortunately, a lot of our tour was inside...but not all of it.  First Will showed the kids where and how he first arrived on the MIT campus as a freshman.  (In a Taxi from the bus station after a four day bus ride from Montana.)  He showed the kids where he was dropped off and pointed out the football field where he walked and tried to figure out what to do next.

Will took us to one of his classrooms.  Lorien got to show us her art skills and the kids got to run around.

Next Will took us down to a library and through the many stacks of books.  MIT has so many books the shelves are on rollers and you roll them back and forth to make space to look at the books.

Behind the stacks of books was the map room.  MIT has maps of all over the place!

After the map room we headed back out into the rain.  Really, thank goodness for the rain jackets!  We walked quickly through a bit of campus to check out the new Student Center.  I worked at MIT when this building was being built but we left right before it was finished.  The building is cool and weird.

The inside of the Student Center is awesome.  They have odes to all of the classic MIT hacks/pranks.  There are lots of fun art and interactive exhibits.

We loved this screen the most!  We stood there for 30 minutes watching the screen change and react to our movement.  It was awesome!

After the Student Center we high-tailed it over to the MIT Museum.  On the way Adell and I saw a baby bunny.

We also passed Will's Frat house, Zeta Psi, his home for his freshman and part of his sophomore years.

At the MIT Museum Clare found these two perpetual motion installments that she had seen on an episode of Arthur.

The museum was great and we spent a bit of money at the gift shop getting everyone some MIT gear.  Totally worth it!
