Look, if you are ever in the Cancun area of Mexico and get a chance to spend the day at Mexican Disneyland...do it! Excaret is a theme park company in Mexico. They have 10 or so parks and most of them are in the Cancun area. We decided to give the park called Xplor a try. It went far and beyond our expectations for family fun. There were 9 zip lines, caves to explore, an underground river, jeeps to drive through the jungle, and food. We spent some time getting suited up with helmets and wrist bands. Will indulged me and paid for a picture package. Xplor has this brilliant system where they read your helmet/wristband numbers and cameras all around the park take your pictures. At the end of the day you have loads of photographic evidence of your amazing day.
Our first order of business was a run on the zip lines. Once you start, you have to go down all nine lines with the last one running you through a waterfall and into a river. It. Is. Wild. You start out a hundred or so feet in the air, zip down, climb up, and zip down again. I was terrified. Thankfully, Lorien and I got to ride together a few times. Wyatt rode alone, Clare and Adell together a few times, and Will and Colter. We switched up the order once or twice. We all had to ride the last line alone...into the water! The men and women who harnessed you in and out of the lines were absolute professionals. They speedily clipped us in and out. They asked us distracting questions when we looked too nervous. They told us how to be safe and have fun. It was crazy. You were harnessed in and flew over the tippy top of the trees. I hated every second of climbing up and standing on the edge. I hated every second until three seconds after stepping off the edge. Those 30-50 seconds of flying over the forest were incredible! Worth all the nerves and sickness of the moments before.
After our first run on the zip lines we took a dip in the river that runs through the caves. We had to get all the way into the water and swim our way through the caves. Other than being chilly we had a great time. There were little fish and lights to see where we were going. After the caves we were shivering cold. The day was not hot. We tried to dry off and warm up. Lorien went to the car to take a nap. The rest of us rode the zip lines one more time and got lunch at the cafe.
We also took a drive in the jeeps. They were really just golf carts with gas engines. We got to race through the jungle and scream through caves. I have pictures of that activity too but cannot get them uploaded. Finally we got Lorien from the car and did the zip lines one last time. So, so, so, so much fun! I cannot believe I got to do this crazy thing with my family. I cannot believe I was brave enough to go on the zip lines when I hate heights. Honestly, I never thought this was something I would get to do or be brave enough to do. By our very last round on the zip line my nerves were gone and I really enjoyed the rides.
The park closed at 5:00 pm. We all agreed, it was the most fun we had ever had. We all congratulated ourselves for our bravery. We headed back to the condo and ordered pizza for dinner. This day was the perfect description of adventure for our family.
