A couple of months ago Lorien announced that she would be wrestling this year. This was a shock. Lorien tried wrestling when she was pretty little, eight years old maybe? But she got her face stuffed in a mat her first match and decided it wasn't for her. She still participated in practices and enjoyed that but did not participate in a match again. Will suspected she wanted to wrestle because of a boy...I knew the boy was her father and her interest in something he is interested in.
So she started attending open mat meetings where the team got together casually to work out and practice moves. She was also taking Japanese and her schedule was full. The season started full time and she had to finish Japanese before being in wrestling full time. It was hard but she said she wanted to keep doing it!
Her first tournament was today. She was nervous and it was hard. She wrestled two boys and got pinned (quickly) both times. One match was harder than the other and she felt a little defeated.
In her last match, the kid pinned her quickly but the way their bodies were crunched together he had his arm over her neck and it was pretty uncomfortable for her. Her first match was a little better and lasted longer. She needs a lot of practice but she is determined. I am proud of her.
